Chinaberry

These trees sprout early and produce beautiful delicate fragrant flowers. These trees grow tall and fast.  After I cut one down, two things happen.  One, the roots and stumps sprout new plants.  The other unfortunate action occurs when the ground gets sunlight for the first time in awhile.  The chinaberry seeds which had been sitting in shaded finally begin to sprout. Dozens and dozens of baby chinaberry plants begin growing.

So, a chopped down tree with two efforts to live needs a two pronged attack.  First, poison the stump and chop it back again (and again).  Next, the babies need to die.  Hand pulling is easy at the start.  I found that the chinaberry will succumb after one good year of effort.
